Hey Todd

This is the email the PTC support lady sent. Sandy Vasudevan. Dont know if you know or have
interfaced with her. Seemed very very wc knowlegable over the phone. Not great handle on English,
but well enough to understand. Just had to have her repaet a couple of times.

Anway, as I look all this over, I will probably have a couple questions.

Thanks
Larry

Lawrence,

C6251696 : Customer is looking for general Upgrade Instruction to upgrade from  Windchill 7 M090 to both Windchill 8.0 M050 & Windchill 9.0 M030.

I have summarised all the details we discussed on the phone. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Before you begin the Upgrade, please take a few seconds to review this information:

1) First, follow the procedure in the Rehost Guide(link below) to rehost the Production 7.0 server on to a Test Server where you will perform the upgrade.

http://www.ptc.com/WCMS/files/38433/en/WindchillRehostGuide.pdf

2) Make sure you can bring up the 7.0 server up and log into the UI.

3) Now, take a backup of you LDAP .

4) Uninstall Aphelion browser from Control Panel.

5) Upgrade Oracle to 10g using the Database Assistant Manager . Please open a call with the Windchill Runtime Group if you want assistance with this.

6) Install Windchill 9.0 on this same machine. (use attached Windchill_upgrade_checklist.pdf as reference for this)

Also, refer to the Windchill Installation and Configuration guide:
http://www.ptc.com/WCMS/files/58562/en/WCAdvancedInstallConfigGuide.pdf

   a) Install Apache/tomcat/Aphelion(browser) on a different directory structure.
   b) Make sure to install the Infoengine with a distinct Base Distinguished Name.
   c) When creating the Oracle User, make sure to create a new 9.0 User Schema, but use the same Service Name (SID) defined in the 7.0 db.properties(wt.pom.serviceName)

7) Once the 9.0 install is done, you should be able to bring up the 9.0 server successfully and log into the UI.

Now, you should follow the instructions in the Upgrade Guide to begin the Upgrade Process.
